This Cedar Hill home had everything its owners loved about transitional architecture but what it did not have was the atmosphere they envisioned for everyday living. As busy entrepreneurs who regularly host family and friends, they wanted their home to feel more modern and tranquil while preserving the character that made them fall in love with it in the first place. What they were looking for was a shift. Something more modern and much more calming. A space that felt like a retreat at the end of the day, while still being perfect for hosting friends and family on a regular basis.

The Vision Behind the Transformation

From the very beginning, the direction was clear. The home needed to keep its original character, but the feeling of each space had to change completely. Our goal was to move away from traditional formality and create something more layered and atmospheric. A dark and rich color story became the foundation of the design which was supported by warm textures and lighting that added depth without overwhelming the space.

At the same time, one of the most important priorities was preserving the connection to the outdoors. The home sits in a beautiful setting with views of the backyard and lake, and those views needed to remain uninterrupted and celebrated throughout the design. So every decision came back to balance. Depth, but still open. Style, but still comfortable for everyday life.

Entryway: Setting the Tone

The entry was the first opportunity to shift the identity of the home. We introduced a deeper, moodier color palette that immediately changed the atmosphere the moment you stepped inside. It no longer felt like a transitional space. It became an introduction to the home’s new personality.

A sculptural light fixture was added to bring focus and elegance and it acted almost like a visual centerpiece. Clean styling and intentional decor completed the space without overcomplicating it. From the moment you walk through the door, the home now feels more modern, calm and quietly dramatic in the best way.

Dining Room: Designed for Gathering

The dining room originally leaned more traditional and formal, which made it feel slightly disconnected from the rest of the home’s potential. We reworked it into a more intimate entertaining space. The darker wall tones immediately created warmth, while layered lighting above the table brought a soft glow that makes the room feel inviting in the evenings.

Small changes like upholstered seating, textured finishes and subtle metallic accents added depth without making the space feel heavy. It now feels like a room designed for long dinners, conversation and gathering.

Living Room: A Complete Reimagining

The living room became one of the most significant transformations in the entire home. One of the key changes was removing the traditional fireplace and replacing it with a modern electric fireplace framed by custom built-ins. This single shift completely changed the focal point of the room and brought a much cleaner and more contemporary structure to the space.

From there, everything was layered to support comfort and atmosphere. Soft furnishings and warm lighting created a space that feels grounded and relaxed, while still feeling elevated enough for entertaining. It is now a true central space in the home. One that works just as well for quiet evenings as it does for hosting guests.

Kitchen: Function Meets Atmosphere

In the kitchen, the focus was on refining what already worked while elevating the overall experience. We added basics like updated cabinetry tones, contrasting hardware, and layered lighting that helped shift the space into a more modern direction without losing its practicality. Glass tile and textured finishes also added subtle interest without overpowering the design. We introduced pendant fixtures as a focal element, while under-cabinet lighting brought both function and a soft ambient glow in the evenings. The result is a kitchen that feels both highly functional and visually refined, with a boutique-like quality that still supports everyday use.

Breakfast Nook: A Quiet Escape

The breakfast nook became one of the most peaceful yet trendy parts of the home. Soft tones and comfortable seating created a relaxed atmosphere that feels perfect for slow mornings or casual meals. The lighting here was intentionally kept warm and soft to maintain a sense of calm.

The Final Result

This transformation brought a completely new energy to the home while still respecting its original structure and charm. What was once a traditional interior now feels like a modern sanctuary. Every room carries its own personality but all of them feel connected. Most importantly, the home now reflects the way the clients actually live. It supports busy days, quiet evenings and the kind of hosting they enjoy with friends and family.
